3 Ways to Find a Work-From-Home Job

It's the dream of every exhausted professional: keep the paycheck, and the career advancement, but lose the expensive and tiresome commute. If you'd just as soon do your job in your pajamas -- or, at any rate, far from the madding crowds of the cubicle farm -- there are several solid options for making your work-at-home career blossom. Here's how to get started.

Negotiate With Your Boss

Many of today's jobs require only an internet connection and maybe a phone line. If your present gig is one of these, you might be able to talk your manager into allowing you to work at home on a full- or part-time basis. The best way to do this is to demonstrate that letting you do your job from a home office will benefit the company.

Focus your argument on the productivity gains, and therefore the money the company stands to earn. Be prepared to back up your claims with real numbers, hopefully with dollar signs in front of them. Your case will be stronger if you're able to demonstrate your ability to get stuff done while outside the office.
If you're already allowed to work at home on an occasional basis, be sure to put in your very best work whenever you're having a work-at-home day. If your manager and colleagues have to go looking for you during your WAH, it'll be hard to persuade them that you can be trusted with a more permanent arrangement.
Look Online
If the job you have doesn't lend itself to working from home, or you're in the market for a new job altogether, take a look at one of the many online job searching sites that allow you to search just for work-from-home opportunities. Monster, Craigslist, and CareerBuilder all have searchable listings that you can filter with keywords like "work from home" or "work at home" or "freelance."
In addition, specialty job sites like FlexJobs allow you to search vetted banks of telecommuting, freelance, and a part-time work (generally, for a fee). If you go it on your own, just be sure to avoid scams. The old adage is true: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Other warning signs of internet job scams include outrageously high pay, vague job descriptions or titles, or people contacting you out of the blue via email with any of the above.
Finally, never, ever give anyone your bank account information, credit card number, or any identifying personal information that could help someone steal your cash or worse, your identity. Work-from-home scammers often try to sell their victims a "kit" to help them get started, but the best-case scenario is that you'll waste your money.
Focus on Companies or Specific Jobs
So no, you're probably not going to make six figures stuffing envelopes or processing rebates. But you can make a decent living working at home by used those vetted resources described above, or looking specifically at companies which feature a large number of work-from-home positions or by investigating career paths that lend themselves to telecommuting.

How to Make Money From a Blog

Do you want to earn money by blogging? A blog is a web log or an online diary that can be for business or pleasure. Many people now earn part-time or even full-time salaries by blogging for money. Find out a few ways that you can monetize your blog and earn money for your efforts.

Choose a blog. There are free hosted blogs online through many sources that can help you by giving you the tools and resources to make it simple to start your own blog. Or you can register a domain name and start your blog from scratch if you have a bit of technical savvy.

Choose a niche. Once you've decided on a blog, decide what you will write about to attract visitors. Some simply use their blog as a place to write editorials or opinions while others blog about a specific subject they are knowledgeable on. Many professional bloggers recommend that you choose a niche so you can build a following.

Promote your blog. Use web services that will get you some attention such as blog directories and social bookmarking. Using these services can help you get indexed in search engines and drive traffic to your blog. Commenting on other blogs can also build links in to your blog and help more people find you. Once you have some material to read and are indexed in search engines, you can begin to really monetize your blog and start earning money.

Sign up with Google Adsense. Google offers the ability for people to display targeted advertisements on their blog. Google will give you a percentage of that revenue when people: click on the ads, view the ads and purchase something from a sponsor. You need to apply to Google Adsense and wait for acceptance, and then you will have to work with your blog program to embed the code so the advertisements display properly. This is not difficult.

You need to follow Google's TOS (terms of service) in order to maintain good standing.

Making Money with Craigslist

Craigslist.com

Craigslist is the modern equivalent of the classified ads that dominated the days of newspapers. These quick ads are easy to navigate and use, and they’re geographically linked. Whether you’re selling something or offering a service, this is a great place to start learning the intricacies of Craigslist.

Posting ads on Craigslist is technically easy, but people often have fears about posting their personal information on the site. I communicate mostly through email when doing business on Craigslist, and I’ve never run into any issues. I’ve never been ripped off, nor have I been murdered or raped for using the site. It takes common sense, so use your best judgment, but don’t assume someone is a thief just because of their preferred communication method.

Making Money with Hand Crafted Items

Etsy.com

If you’re crafty you’ll enjoy Etsy. Handcrafted items are the bread and butter here. Plenty of people make decent side money on the site, which is basically an EBay for crafters and artists. Set up a sellers account with Etsy, and you’ll be asked to set up your virtual storefront and put up at least 5 goods for sale.

Once you have this down, you’ll be a budding Etsy entrepreneur. Provide great quality to your customers, and they’ll often return. Many people are willing to pay a premium for quality handmade designs. Etsy (like EBay and Amazon) takes a cut off the top for selling items through their site. PayPal takes another cut, and you have to be careful with taxes on all income, so be diligent while building your online business.

Making Money with Amazon VS. Ebay

Amazon.com

If you start getting too big for Ebay or decide you want to try a different flavor, Amazon has a marketplace as well. I prefer using Amazon because I can depend on their shipping, have a Prime account, and trust their reviews.

The difference between Amazon and Ebay is that Ebay (although still filled with new items) is seen as a used marketplace between individual parties, whereas Amazon (which is filled with offers for new and used merchandise from the 3rd parties) is viewed as a WalMart-type superstore. As a consumer, this difference leads me to use Amazon, so it only makes sense to target on my own demographic.

Amazon Associates.com

Amazon has an Associates program for site owners and bloggers. They offer a search tool to find the right products and services from their site and a variety of ad styles to display on your site, including text-based and banner images (digital billboards) like this:

Each item purchased through your Amazon links give you a commission. It doesn’t take high volume traffic to achieve results, either. I began making money with the program when I only had 1,000 hits per month on my site. They can apply your earnings to your Amazon account balance, issue you a check, or direct deposit into your bank account. If you love Amazon, you’ll love their associate’s program.

More New Survey Sites (Must See)

You're going to love taking surveys at home. It's easy, it's fast, and it works anytime you want to sit down and make a little money. But let me give you some realistic expectations. Many survey companies will only send you one or two surveys a week. Most surveys take less than 10 minutes to complete. So if you make an average of $10 - $15 per survey, that's over $50 per hour. But since you only get one or two surveys a week per company, that's not much. So you want to sign up for as many survey companies as you can so you can get a lot of surveys.

RewardTV.com
Are you kidding? Make money sitting on your couch while watching TV? Believe it or not, it's actually true. Earning points with RewardTV is easy and fun. You play fun trivia games based on the TV shows you watch and you're rewarded by commercial sponsors such as BMW, Walmart, CocaCola, Toys R Us, Chevron, etc.

My View.com
If you want to earn money FAST, MyView is the one for you. As soon as you sign up, they give you a whole list of surveys you can take immediately and start earning money. I mean immediately. But you have to do the first survey they send you to. That`s the key. Otherwise they forget about you. it only takes a few minutes though.

Swagbucks.com
Seems like everyone is talking about Swagbucks these days. Swagbucks is one of the most visited websites on the face of the Earth with over 4 Million active users. They reward you while you browse the web, shop online or watch videos. Uh... Wait? Aren’t these activities the things you are doing already? That’s right! So why not earn a little extra as you do it.

Swagbucks also has a strong social media presence. 1.4 Million likes on Facebook! That just shows how much people have been using, enjoying and making money from Swagbucks. They are the premier loyalty program on the web today. They reward you for searching the web, answering surveys or even playing video games. But most especially they reward you for online shopping. So Swagbucks may mean a lot of different things to a lot different people.  But one thing is certain. They are the web’s leading social rewards portal.

Project Payday.com
Project Payday is my favorite way to make quick money online. I can almost guarantee you have never seen anything like it before and you can get their training guide for free. They were even featured on MSN recently.

Project Payday`s training guide and "Fast First Fifty" program introduces you to the world of Incentivized Freebie Websites (or IFW`s for short). If you haven`t heard of these, don`t worry, Project Payday will explain it all to you.
You can sign up and get the guide FOR FREE at Project Payday. You can start making money really quickly - within a few hours. It does take some work on your part, but anyone who believes that they can make money without doing anything should stop searching for a way to make money online immediately, before they get seriously scammed.
They also have a guarantee where they offer to pay YOU $100 if you follow their system and don`t make money yourself. So that`s how confident they are in their system.
I`ve reviewed lots of work from home opportunities over the years and Project Payday still earns my highest mark. I highly suggest you check it out.

Valued Opinions.com
Valued Opinions is great because in four quick surveys you can get $20 immediately! This is a high class service. You`ll realize that when you see who their clients are. The great thing is that you can also win Marriott hotel stays, iTunes money, Macy`s gift certificates and lot more nice rewards like that. And that`s in addition to the cash you earn!

Here`s one really unique thing they do: if you already have an account with one of their customers, like a cell phone company, or credit card company, etc., they post jobs for a certain payout (like $5 or so) and then you call customer service for that company. Then you fill out a quick survey reporting the results of the call! So you get PAID to tattle-tale on bad (or good) customer service. Nice deal huh!

Univox Community.com
Univox Community is one of the newest survey panel out there but so far all I’ve been getting are rave reviews. They are one of the easiest marketing research companies to sign up with and their customer interface is one of the most intuitive I have ever seen.

One thing I really like is the moment you sign up, Univox Community rewards you with 500 bonus points. These points, when accumulated can be redeemed for online gift certificates at Amazon.com. And joining is FREE!

YourWord.com
Share ideas, build brands and earn rewards on YourWord. Join this online community to put your own stamp on the products and services you use every day. Earn rewards for sharing your thoughts and time. Then, redeem your rewards for gift cards to some of your favorite retailers. Register now and YourWord will give you 50 cents and send you on your way to earn more

Let Me know what you think about these sites.

Make Money Taking Surveys Online (new sites available)

These survey sites have been prescreened and I have joined all of them just to make sure they were legitimate.  Let me just say that your email inbox will be full once you have joined at least 10 of these survey sites but these are all opportunities to make money.

1.  Quality Health.com:

This site is an absolute must for anyone with any kind of health condition, or who has an upcoming doctor appointment. The unique survey system is loaded with educational content, free guides, and savings offers for a wide variety of care, medications, and treatments. Just answer questions and it comes to you.

Even if you're the picture of perfect health, go here for the coupon offers, which could save you a hundreds of dollars a year with a few minutes and a few clicks.

2.  SendEarnings.com:

I like this one because of the $5 sign-up bonus. They give you 5 bucks just to sign up! Then the dollars just keep coming. I get good offers every single day from them. And then after I do the quick surveys, they send me my earnings! Just like their name says.

One of the most popular ways to make money with this program is to complete their daily $.50 survey. Sure it`s not a lot of money but the survey will only take you a minute or so and if you do the math that equals out to about $30/hr. But the "secret" is that once you do the daily survey, that opens up other ways you can make money that only the daily surveys takers get.

3.   TolunaUSA.com

Toluna Survey Panel is unique for several reasons. It`s community based--so there are a lot of mini-polls, and what`s really fun is you even get to do your own mini-polls! Also, you get points even if you don`t qualify for a given survey! They have a monthly $4500 drawing for survey takers, and the more surveys you try, the more entries you get. Toluna is one that rewards you for diligence.

Points will then be converted into cash, PayPal or gift cards. They accept people from several international countries.

4.  NationalConsumerPanel.com

National Consumer Panel This is a serious one. It's one of my favorites and it's one one of the easiest, but it does take a little work on your part. Here's how it works. They send you a free little home scanner and you just scan the bar code of anything and everything you buy. It's that simple. The more you scan, the more points you get! I was amazed at how fast I got some significant points in my account. I`m saving for a LCD TV and I should have it soon! This is so easy and fun. It's run by the Nielsen company so it's really professional and well done. There are no surveys. You just scan what you buy! It takes just minutes.

More survey sites and ways to make money from home to follow.

How To Make Money As A Mystery Shopper

This opportunity intrigued me, I mean come on, making a living shopping? who wouldn't love a career like this?  I had to research this job and as I began my research I said a silent prayer that this is actually a legitimate job.

Mystery shoppers are hired by a variety of companies, including retailers and restaurants. Many times, these companies depend on good customer service to fuel their sales. So they hire mystery shoppers to get a first-hand account of the customer service that their staff are providing.

Take the best jobs that you can

Don’t take jobs for places that you don’t usually go to or to buy items that you usually wouldn’t buy, but take jobs that you can provide solid input to the company for. Remember, you aren’t only trying to make a living, you are also helping these companies “up the ante” when it comes to customer service and the products they offer.

Follow the instructions

Mystery shoppers are usually given very specific instructions by the company that they are representing. These instructions can be a variety of things: come in at a certain time of day, order a specific menu item, or purchase a certain product. Then, the mystery shopper needs to watch for certain details that are part of the customer experience.

It is really important for you to take mental notes; physical notes may tip the employees off that you’re a mystery shopper, which may make them act differently and make your study invalid. It also is important for you to follow the instructions exactly, or you may not get paid for the experience or you may get asked to go back and repeat the process.

After the experience, you are then asked by the company to fill out a specific form (usually found online). These forms will ask for everything and anything related to the experience: from the customer service, to the use of the product, to the taste of the menu item. Make sure that you remember all of these things and explain everything in extreme detail. Overall, a mystery shopper job takes an hour and a half to two hours.

Be patient

The most important part of making money as a mystery shopper is to be patient! There is a bit of a learning curve that comes with being a mystery shopper, and it can seem discouraging at first. But, as time goes on, you will learn the ins and outs of the process and grow more comfortable with the system. That means you will get your jobs completed more quickly and you can fit more into your day or week!

Making money as a mystery shopper takes time and work, but it’s definitely worth the effort if you enjoy shopping and want to be your own boss. Consider becoming a mystery shopper and get the extra income that you’ve always dreamed of.

How to Make Money with Freelance Work Online

If you have a skill to offer, check out the various freelance sites (sometimes called "personal outsourcing"), like elance.com and guru.com (see the Resources section for the links I mention).

You can post your skills at these sites, so potential customers can check you out, and you can also look around for freelance projects that others have posted.

There are tons of opportunities for freelancers, in very varied fields. Common projects, though, are writing, computer or graphics design work, creating web pages, programming, writing brochures or reports, illustration, photography, and so on.

Pay can be pretty good, especially after you've earned a quality rating at one or more of the freelancing sites. At the same time, though, keep in mind that you're competing with freelancers from around the world.

Take a look at the "How Elance Works" video on their main page to get a quick overview.

How to Make Money from Online Jury Duty

During an online mock trial, attorneys present highlights of their case to a set of mock jurors, who deliberate until they reach a verdict. Mock jurors provide insight on the case and offer the attorneys valuable feedback. Attorneys often use this preliminary information when they are deciding whether or not to accept a case.

1.  Surf the Internet to find reputable online jury duty sites. Check user reviews and make sure that the e-jurors that have used the service were happy with the experience and got paid on time. If you see complaints, move on to the next online jury duty site.

2.  Review the requirements and make sure that you meet the necessary criteria to become an online juror. To qualify on most sites, you must be at least 18 years old and a United States citizen with no felony convictions. You can not be a lawyer or an insurance company representative.

3.  Complete and submit the necessary membership applications for all the reputable sites that you qualify for. This will increase your chances of being selected for online jury duty, since some sites are more active than others.

4.  Read and carefully review all the instructions and guidelines that will be provided when you are selected for online jury duty. You'll increase your chances of being invited to serve again if you follow all the rules and fulfill all the requirements.

5.  Sign up for a PayPal account. Some online jury duty sites use PayPal to pay you for your services. This may not be necessary in all cases; some sites prefer to send checks through the mail in order to verify your identity and address.

Work-at-Home Call Center Jobs

Call center jobs can be either work at home (a.k.a. virtual call center) or in an office outside the home. Companies may hire call center agents for their own business needs, or they may contract with BPOs who provide call center services for a fee.

While we all have an idea of what call center work entails, i.e., talking on the phone, the specifics of each job can vary considerably. So as you start your call center job search, think about these types of call center work:

Inbound vs. outbound calls - Call center agents may take in-bound calls or outbound calls or both. Typically, outbound calls are sales calls, while in-bound may or may not be sales.

Home call centers vs. office jobs - While many people may prefer to work at home, (or virtual) call center jobs are not nearly as plentiful as office jobs. Plus, not everyone has the office equipment required for home call centers or wants to invest in it. Some office-based call centers allow employees to transition to working at home after training.

Independent contractor vs. employee positions - Companies hire call center agents as both independent contractors and as employees. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Office based call centers are more likely to be employment positions, but a virtual call center might go either way.

Full- and part-time positions - Because call centers need a wide range of hours worked and have so many employees, many offer both full- and part-time schedules. These are some part-time home call center jobs.

Outsourcing vs. in-house operations - Some companies (such as Home Shopping Network or GE Retail Finance) run their own call centers to support their core businesses. Other companies outsource call center operations to a BPO (such as Alpine Access or Convergys) that hires work at home agents. Agents at these “homeshoring” operations may work on a variety of clients and need a wide range of skills.

Specialized call center work - Some call center need workers with specialized skills. The most common skill required is being bilingual. Bilingual call center jobs often pay a little more. Other specialized skills that call centers might need are telehealth for nursing jobs or licensed agents for insurance jobs. High-level technical support can also be a specialized call center job, but much of the basic support jobs are done by agents who are trained in the technical skills by their companies. Also, call center agents may move into call center management positions.

How to Make Money at Home Assembling Products

Assembling products from the comfort of your living room offers flexible working hours and pre-arranged rates of pay, allowing you to work around your other time commitments. You can assemble a variety of products, ranging from children's toys to decorative boxes.  I tried this as well my advice to you is be careful on what products that they want you to assemble and also realize that although this sounds easy it can be very tedious and time consuming.

1.  Look on the Internet and ask for recommendations from friends about reputable home assembly companies. Pick the type of product you want to assemble. Examples include dolls, toys, capes and Christmas products.

2.  Apply online. Most home assembly jobs do not require you to have any qualifications or experience. Follow the instructions given on the company's website to apply. Typically this involves filling in an online form stating your personal details and the amount of products you can produce per week.

3.  Request product parts. Once you have been accepted by your chosen company you can start requesting product parts. At first, only order enough to assemble one or two completed products a week, until you are sure the job is right for you. You don't want to be stuck paying for excess inventory.

4.  Submit products. Most companies have a restriction on the amount of items you can submit per week. Double-check the guidelines before submitting the items for approval. If the specifications are not met you will not be paid. You normally submit products by mail or a company representative comes to collect them.

5.  Receive payment. Home assembly companies typically pay weekly by cash or online payment. Payments are made in arrears, meaning you will not be paid for your work in week 1 until the end of week 2. Keep a record of the number of items you have submitted to make sure you are paid correctly.

When I tried assembling products from home I was making earrings and before I could finish the earring the product would break I ended up sending everything back to the company.  Let me know if you find any genuine jobs in this field.

How to Make Money Stuffing Envelopes

Work at home envelope stuffing schemes are shown throughout the internet. The idea that the schemes came from are legit, but are given a bad reputation due to the extensive scammers in the field.  I tried this and ended up getting scammed do not make the same mistakes I've made.  Remember, if you have to pay it isn't a real opportunity.  Here is how to work at home stuffing envelopes without getting scammed.

1.  Do not pay for a set up package or get caught up in schemes sending out mail to get others to buy a package to send out mail. This is not a real work at home job and is not going to make you money.

2.  Be knowledgeable in the fact that generic mailings are more cost effective to be prepared through a machine and will probably not have human contact till they get to the post office. The only types of work from home stuffing envelopes jobs are working with mailings that have to be individually customized. And typically these envelopes are not sent by the thousands or rarely even the hundreds.

3.  Find a company that would benefit from your envelope stuffing service. Non Profit organizations with boards usually have to send out very large personalized packages to their members on a monthly basis. Grant writers with a high customer base with little employees are also a good business to contact. Grant writer usually have allot of snail mail and virtual mail to get out that has to be perfect. For either types of companies they will usually only think about hiring when they are extremely busy and if you prove yourself to be cost effective they will usually keep you on. Accountants may also hire out for such service during the busy seasons.

4. Advertise what services your business will offer. The best way to do this is through face to face contact with prospective clients and referrals through happy resistance services.

These are very good tips to follow if you want to legitimately make money stuffing envelopes.  Let me know if you have found any genuine envelope stuffing jobs.

Make Money Taking Surveys Online

Gone are the days of jobs being a dime a dozen, if you are one of the 14.9 million people unemployed, you know the desperation to make money now.  After sending out at least 100 resumes to no avail I began searching every avenue possible to make money legitimately.

If you are like me you have always wanted to work from home, being your own boss, not having the constraints of working for someone else, commuting to work, to the conclusion of just barely being able to make ends meet.

In my quest for the perfect "work at home" career I went through pages and pages of leads and clicked on every result I found.  If you have ever researched "work from home jobs", you have probably found that most of these opportunities is a way to make other people rich while you, yourself remain broke.

Let me save you the trouble of doing all the work I have already done and pass this information on to you.

The way this works is you join the website for free, fill out a short questionare that matches you to available surveys, and they send survey notifications to your email inbox.

After taking surveys you earn either the actual cash value for the surveys or points that can be redeemed through pay pal for cash.  NOTE: Not all surveys pay out in cash some can only be redeemed for products and services so if you want to make money be careful which survey sites you choose.

The following sites allow you to either earn the cash value of the survey or points that can be redeemed at paypal for cash. Just search out the following and they will take you straight to the registration page.

     A.  Globaltestmarket.com

      B.  Surveyspot.com

      C.  Mysurvey.com

      D   Survey.vip.com

Now, what I do want to point out about making money this way is that most of these sources have a minimum to cash out, such as $10.00 or $20.00 and the money to be made is not easy money.  Some of the surveys are lengthy and time consuming and you will not qualify for every survey you start, you may get half way through and you'll get a message stating "we're sorry you do not qualify for this survey".

Even though the minimums to cash out do not seem like that much, some surveys only pay $1.00 and some only give you 5 points and you may have to take several surveys just to make $10.00.

On a positive note there is money to be made at these survey sites as well as other sites, these are the sites that I am currently using.

More information to follow on legitimate work from home opportunities.

Share you experiences with me, if you have found other legitimate survey options that have been successful for you, let me know I would love to hear about them.
