How To Make Money As A Mystery Shopper

This opportunity intrigued me, I mean come on, making a living shopping? who wouldn't love a career like this?  I had to research this job and as I began my research I said a silent prayer that this is actually a legitimate job.

Mystery shoppers are hired by a variety of companies, including retailers and restaurants. Many times, these companies depend on good customer service to fuel their sales. So they hire mystery shoppers to get a first-hand account of the customer service that their staff are providing.

Take the best jobs that you can

Don’t take jobs for places that you don’t usually go to or to buy items that you usually wouldn’t buy, but take jobs that you can provide solid input to the company for. Remember, you aren’t only trying to make a living, you are also helping these companies “up the ante” when it comes to customer service and the products they offer.

Follow the instructions

Mystery shoppers are usually given very specific instructions by the company that they are representing. These instructions can be a variety of things: come in at a certain time of day, order a specific menu item, or purchase a certain product. Then, the mystery shopper needs to watch for certain details that are part of the customer experience.

It is really important for you to take mental notes; physical notes may tip the employees off that you’re a mystery shopper, which may make them act differently and make your study invalid. It also is important for you to follow the instructions exactly, or you may not get paid for the experience or you may get asked to go back and repeat the process.

After the experience, you are then asked by the company to fill out a specific form (usually found online). These forms will ask for everything and anything related to the experience: from the customer service, to the use of the product, to the taste of the menu item. Make sure that you remember all of these things and explain everything in extreme detail. Overall, a mystery shopper job takes an hour and a half to two hours.

Be patient

The most important part of making money as a mystery shopper is to be patient! There is a bit of a learning curve that comes with being a mystery shopper, and it can seem discouraging at first. But, as time goes on, you will learn the ins and outs of the process and grow more comfortable with the system. That means you will get your jobs completed more quickly and you can fit more into your day or week!

Making money as a mystery shopper takes time and work, but it’s definitely worth the effort if you enjoy shopping and want to be your own boss. Consider becoming a mystery shopper and get the extra income that you’ve always dreamed of.
